With another perfect display our Lions registered their third consecutive victory in the league. It was also the second large win, this time the final score reading 6-1. Fernando De Andrade is now also topping the table of the top scorers as he was the protagonist scoring four goals. Kenneth Mercieca (ex Qala) scored the other two goals to complete half a dozen. Qala reduced the score when it was two nil by Mario Mifsud mid way the first half but our Lions scored another three till the break. The game was over with our Lions leading 5-1. The second half was very quite with De Andrade scoring his fourth goal while Qala missed a penalty. The Lions introduced more youngsters and late in the game substitute goalie Joseph Attard debuted as he came in for Bajada. This was another important win for our Lions which gives them more confidence and self believe. Sannat were more adventurous in the early stages and opened the score in the 11th minute. Sabri Rais released Fernando de Andrade, the Brazilian striker entered the area and placed in goal with a fine strike. Minutes later the same de Andrade was denied from scoring with an excellent save by goalie Joseph Xerri. The Saints went close to level the score in the 15th minute. Dione Lautier passed to Andreas Fotso, but the latter’s low shot was partially saved by goalie Demis Bajada and defender Paul Spiteri cleared the danger. In the 21st minutes Sannat’s de Andrade and Kenneth Mercieca disturbed each other when they were in a good position, but de Andrade doubled the score one minute later with an excellent shot that surprised goalie Xerri. The maroons had an immediate reaction and reduced the arrears with a shot from the edge of the area by Mario Mifsud following a corner kick by Joseph Xerri. Qala tried to recover the deficit but their reaction left their rearguard exposed to Sannat’s fast breaks. The Lions became lethal and increased their lead with two goals in the space of two minutes. In the 31st minute Fernado de Andrade registered his personal hat-trick with a shot from an angled position and in the 33rd minute the Brazilian striker released Kenneth Mercieca and the latter placed in an empty goal from close distance. Sannat continued to dominate over their opponents and increased the score seconds from half time. Errol Grima entered the area, dribbled three defenders and released Kenneth Mercieca who placed easily into an open goal. After the break Sannat went close to increase their lead and in the 51st minute a cross-shot by Paul Spiteri was cleared off the fatal line by Brian Portelli. The Lions reduced pressure and Qala tried to make the score more respectable. In the 55th minute Sannat’s goalie Demis Bajada blocked a free kick by Andreas Fotso and minutes later Dione Lautier failed to conclude in a melee at Sannat’s area. Qala were punished for the missed chances in the 64th minute when Fernando de Andrade headed in goal a free kick by Cristiano de Oliveira. In the 73rd minute Qala were awarded a penalty for a tackle by Cristiano de Oliveira on Dione Lautier but Mario Mifsud’s penalty kick hit the post. Sannat’s goalie Bajada made a good save in the 83rd minute following a low shot by Fotso while an effort by Joe Xerri minutes later ended over the crossbar.Referee : George Portelli |
