Unfortunately our Lions suffered the second consecutive defeat.  This was our second match of the league and therefore this match leave us pointless atthe bottom of the table.  Champions Nadur Youngsters had a good match and scored the only goal in the opening minutes of the game.  Our Lions reacted in the second half and were unlucky not level the score.  The Lions must work harder if further disappointment is to be avoided.  Our strikers must find their sharpness and start scoring goals for us to lift us up in the table.

Nadur produced some pressure over their opponents from the early stages and managed to score an early goal. In the 6th minute Sannat’s defence failed to clear a corner kick by Chris Camilleri and Eric Nkwankwo was well placed to put the ball in goal with a low shot. One minute later the Youngsters could have doubled the score but Joseph Portelli headed badly from a good position following an inviting cross from the right by Nkwankwo. Sannat’s reaction was sterile and in the 13th minute Nadur were again dangerous with a first timer by Nkwankwo, following a cross by Shaun Muscat, which was blocked by the defence and from the rebound Chris Camilleri concluded over the crossbar. The Lions continued to find it difficult to create danger and their only attempt at goal arrived through a long ranged shot by Mario Cutajar that missed the target. The Youngsters continued to dictate matters.

In the 30th minute Sannat’s goalie Demis Bajada saved with difficulty a shot by Nkwankwo, who was unmarked in the area by Josef Buttigieg. One minute later the same goalkeeper kept his side in contention with two consecutive saves following a close ranged header by Josef Buttigieg and a shot from the rebound by Nkwankwo. Sannat were in a better shape in the last minutes of the first period but seconds from half time Nadur lost a good scoring opportunity when Anthony Portelli entered the area but concluded badly and goalie Bajada saved without any difficulty.

After the break the Youngsters continued to create danger. In the 49th minute goalie Bajada deflected on the post a freekick by Chris Camilleri and defender Mark Formosa cleared the ball off the line. The same goalkeeper was called to make another difficult save one minute later following a shot by Joseph Portelli. Sannat produced their best scoring opportunity in the 53rd minute but Mark Formosa failed to connect to an inviting pass by Fernando de Andrade.

One minute later a shot by the same de Andrade ended just high. The Lions were again dangerous in the 62nd minute with an effort by Mark Formosa that ended just high. In the 65th minute a good shot by Chris Camilleri was blocked in corner by the defence with the goalkeeper beaten and Sannat replied minutes later with an effort by de Andrade following a corner action which was blocked by Peter Buttigieg.
